The Coppertones

The Coppertones are Rob Geaney and Geoff Hughes, both local Port Macquarie musicians with a long and distinguished history.

The Coppertones perform a blend of instrumental and vocal compositions which strongly reflect their individual and collective music influences.

The Coppertones pay homage to surf guitar music both past and present, with a setlist that swings from The Shadows to Cruel Sea, via Pink Floyd and Midnight Oil.

Rob Geaney has composed and played music for fifty years, in duos, vocal trios and larger music ensembles. As a singer songwriter, and as a primary and secondary music teacher, he has passionately shared his love of music to literally thousands of people for the last forty years on the far north and the mid north coasts of NSW.

Rob views his music as an art form constantly exploring and expanding on his own musical influences which range from the British sounds of the 60’s with bands like The Shadows, The Beatles, Pink Floyd etc to the LA and California sounds of Crosby Stills Nash and Young and Steely Dan.

Rob has played in the Port Macquarie area since 2006 and in that time enjoyed a residency at Zebu Bar and Grill, playing with Matt Brooker for 5 years in the Latin trio of Los Tres Amigos. As well, he initiated the highly successful RADIO ZEBU in 2012, an open mic night which ran every week for 4 years. He relished that role of mentoring and showcasing other musicians to the local community.

Geoff Hughes has played rock and blues guitar since 1976, forging his sound in the competitive Sydney pub rock scene of the 1980s with Sydney punk band The Victims, recording and touring act X-IT and award winning Boss Cocky in the 1980s. Geoff moved to Wauchope in the early 90s, where he continued his rock and blues journey with The Levitators, Madhouse, The Martini Brothers (the original duo), Magazine, The Side Project and Everything But Anchovies. The Coppertones showcase Geoff’s dazzling lead guitar style and command of tone and sound. The perfect foil for Robs vocals and rhythm guitar.

The Coppertones are ready to reach out to as many venues and audiences as possible this year in 2020. Look out for them.
